Trump's System of Punishment and Favor

Donald Trump's insatiable appetite for revenge has rapidly transformed into a organized apparatus. During the twelve months, the leader's fury and whims have taken on the guise of government actions in a manner analogous to historical authoritarian governments. Government figures who resist his demands are promptly removed and substituted by devotees. Opposing officials who confront him risk legal action, judicial process and sanctions. Adversaries have been categorized under presidential directives as “anti-American”, “against faith communities” and “opposing economic freedom”, and warned with criminal charges as “extremists”.

The Justice System Restructured

All case involving legal action of political opponents and leniency for loyalists exhibits its own distinct characteristics. However, notwithstanding their particular form, they embody manifestations of what has arisen as a calculated approach. These events are anything but random. Trump's removal of Department of Justice attorneys and Federal Bureau of Investigation officials, accompanied by his installation of devotees in high-level roles, commenced swiftly, soon developed a pattern, and has now been formed into a structure. Federal prosecutors and the FBI have been remade into ideological organizations under the president's explicit orders to execute his demands. Wrongdoing has been made routine. It represents the system of punishment.

Leadership is more concerned with punishing the President's perceived enemies than they are with safeguarding our country's safety.

Internal the Structure

The origin of this mechanism has been exposed in the lawsuit of multiple previous top FBI executives lodged in the ninth month in the federal court in the capital against FBI director Kash Patel and justice department head another official for unlawful firing in “a campaign of retribution against the officials for what Defendants considered to be a refusal to exhibit sufficient political loyalty”. In the complaint that one official, the previous temporary head, recounts a conversation in which the director “openly acknowledged the unlawfulness of his conduct”.

The official had sought to defend FBI agents from being terminated, the lawsuit states. He informed him that “they” – interpreted by him to be the executive branch and federal prosecutors – had directed him to fire all those who they determined as having been involved in a criminal investigation against the president. The filing continues: “He clarified that he had to dismiss the personnel his bosses told him to remove, because his ability to hold his own position relied on the ouster of the agents who handled matters involving the President. He noted that there was no way he or the official could do to prevent these or any other firings, because ‘the FBI sought to place the leader in detention and he remembers.’” Once he advised the director he was disregarding the bureau's own regulations, the director allegedly said “he recognized that and he knew the essence of the immediate dismissals were almost certainly unlawful”.

Extensive Consequences

Following his alleged acknowledgment to the official, the DoJ and the Federal Bureau have been weakened and reorganized for the administration's system of punishment. Six of the agency's high-ranking agents were terminated or compelled to leave in the first days of the administration. Approximately thousands of lawyers at the justice department have taken a “deferred resignation program”. At least seven DoJ lawyers, among them those in the New York office, stepped down in protest over what they regarded as ideological pressure in dropping the legal action against the New York City mayor, the mayor, in as a trade for his assistance with his ICE roundups of immigrants. The ethics division of the justice department, which manages corruption cases, has been reduced to minimal staff. The equality section has been decimated: the majority of its employees has departed. 33% of top officials at the department have quit. The division implementing conservation statutes has lost a majority its leadership.

Incentives and Penalties

Concerning the mayor's situation, the interim prosecutor for the NY office, she, resigned in dissent against what she characterized as the “trade-off”. The border official, the president's “immigration leader,” was present as the implementer with Adams on a media outlet to announce: “If he doesn't come through, I'll be back in New York City.”. Additionally, Emil Bove, earlier the justice department figure and a former Trump attorney, who brokered the arrangement, was granted an court role, a potential springboard to the judicial branch.

The president's immunity for offenses perpetrated while in office, provided by the unprecedented ruling of the conservative on the judicial body, thus thwarting his prosecution over the Capitol riot and safeguarding his political viability for the presidential race, is the basis on which he relies to protect his loyalists. Given this protection, he has been empowered to permit wrongdoing. The effect of the court judgment saturates his presidency and the GOP down to its bones. Trump v United States has spread. In the words of a past leader's administration lawyer John Dean said about the Watergate
